Let’s face it, most couples opt to have their destination wedding in the Bahamas because of the endless options of breathtaking beaches. While the Abaco Cays do offer much versatility in terms of venues aside from beaches, it still remains a popular choice for many.
Choosing to have an island wedding allows you limitless options for fun, laid-back, comfortable wedding attire. Many individuals prefer the traditional, formal tux, but there are many alternative styles that some may find to be more befitting for the particular setting and style of their wedding in the Abacos. Below are a few of my favorite groom and groomsmen attire ideas for an island wedding in Abaco, Bahamas. Maybe you can find some inspiration for your own!
Mix it up
It’s fun to play around with colors; be creative and unique in choosing your own color schemes that match the overall look, style and feel of your wedding. Consider having your groomsmen where two different coordinating shirt colors. For example, if you have five groomsmen and a best man, three of the groomsmen can wear light yellow button-down shirts and the other two can wear a flattering shade of orange. Pair these with light khaki pants. The best man can perhaps wear a dark yellow shirt to stand out as the best man. The groom, of course, can maintain his own personal look and perhaps opt for a white button-down shirt and light khaki pants as well. The bold colors scream tropical and are a match made in heaven for an island wedding.
A common, yet perfect groom attire color choice is light beige or a “sand” color. It is a neutral tone and matches with any other colors and also reflects the island style. You can be creative and incorporate your wedding colors by choosing to go for a solid colored or printed tie and boutonniere. Or, you can keep it casual and simple, yet elegant by opting to stick with simply a beige and white scheme.
Keep it Casual
The laid-back island vibe allows for a laid-back island style wedding. If you prefer to skip the glitz and glamour and opt for a more casual, yet elegant style, you can never go wrong with light weight, white cotton shirts and light colored pants in either khaki or light tropical shades like blue or even coral. You can even go for shorts if you choose! Consider sandals instead of closed-in shoes as they will be both practical and aesthetically appealing with the relaxed look.
Traditional, yet Fun
For those who prefer the traditional formal wedding attire, there is always the option to keep the formality and incorporate a fun theme as well. For example, a popular look is opting for vests / waistcoats in light colors instead of full suits or tuxes. Consider a matching slim tie to add to the elegance.
Your options are limitless when deciding on your island wedding attire. Be creative, inventive and unique in your choices and be sure to keep in mind the atmosphere and setting when making your decisions. Happy planning!
